Visteon's Advanced Front Lighting Systems provide manufacturers with a range of innovative system solutions that can enhance nighttime visibility of road conditions and potential obstacles. These systems use intelligent, proprietary software to optimize beam patterns for specific driving conditions such as speed and vehicle direction and function seamlessly so that drivers enjoy enhanced vision without having to manually adjust and readjust the system.

How it Works

Each system is equipped with sensors that detect changing conditions, a driver-controlled switch, an electronic control unit which processes data from the sensors, and electronic mechanisms that repositions the headlights. Each system is controlled by a Visteon proprietary algorithm that controls headlight actuation. A central processor receives data from a steering wheel sensor (to measure steering angle), speed sensor and axle sensors to direct the headlights in real time.

For instance, when a vehicle turns a corner, the outer headlight maintains a straight beam pattern while the inner headlight beam illuminates the upcoming turn. The system responds to vehicle speed, adjusting for higher and lower speeds. Additionally, at times when high beams are activated, the system adjusts the low beam upwards to further extend the range of vision.

A Scalable, Flexible Solution
One fundamental differentiator of these systems is Visteon's ability to scale them to manufacturer needs. Visteon research revealed that while vehicle buyers know and understand the benefits of Xenon technology, the higher cost of Xenon bulbs could act as a potential deterrent to consumers.

Depending on manufacturer needs, Advanced Front Lighting Systems can be modified to recognize and respond to a variety of road conditions and can also be implemented on vehicles with 14- or 42-volt electrical systems.

Styling Flexibility
Visteon's Advanced Front Lighting Systems also offer a great degree of design flexibility for vehicle designers. These systems, well suited to the recent trend towards projector-style headlights, can be easily packaged as an articulated assembly in reflector-style headlamps. In addition, Visteon has the in-house capabilities to support automotive manufacturers with all aspects of the styling and packaging of our Advanced Front Lighting Systems.
