It is often difficult to find your path and grow into a confident professional. Maninthorn Kamolman is here to share her personal insights and inspire you to build the fulfilling environment you need to thrive.
As I reflect on my journey, I can’t help but feel a surge of gratitude for the path that has led me to where I am today. My family life and childhood in the vibrant city of Bangkok were filled with love, support, and valuable life lessons.
Growing up, I lived in a home that nurtured responsibility and collaboration. My siblings and I all had chores, and mine was feeding the dogs. Both my parents worked hard to support our family. My mother expertly juggled driving me to school and getting to work. Though he didn’t have a higher education, my father instilled a strong work ethic in us by demonstrating the value of diligence and hard work. I vividly remember visiting his workplace and seeing his dedication and commitment firsthand. Despite long days, we always came together for dinner, cherishing those precious moments together as a family.
When I turned 12, I found myself drawn to different sports which became outlets for self-expression and personal growth. Now, I realize that these pursuits laid the foundation for the resilient, determined leader I have become.
For my higher education, I set my sights on Thammasat University, a renowned institution in Thailand. The entrance exam was a make-or-break moment. I aced it and enrolled in the university’s Social Work program. My studies immersed me in a multitude of subjects, including journalism, marketing, law, psychology, economics and political science.
During my time at Thammasat, I discovered my passion for helping people. I quickly learned that social work is not necessarily about providing charity but rather empowering others to help themselves. My final project focused on equipping people with the necessary tools to overcome obstacles and thrive independently.
Following graduation, I took off on a career path that aligned with my passion for working with people. Currently, I serve as an HR Manager at Visteon’s Thailand manufacturing facility. This role allows me to draw upon my past career experiences and my education in Social Work. My knowledge of the human psyche has proven invaluable in understanding different behavior patterns, fostering collaboration, and garnering support from my colleagues.
Visteon, my home for the past four years, has been instrumental in supporting my professional growth. Even during a challenging period when everything in Thailand seemed to be on the decline, I learned the importance of resilience. The leadership team consistently acknowledged and appreciated my efforts, providing recognition for my contributions. This encouragement fueled my determination to succeed. I am fortunate to lead a team that thrives on technological advancements. By staying connected and adaptable in a rapidly changing world, we ensure that we’re ahead of the curve.
In my pursuit of professional growth, I took the initiative to volunteer and support the Finance team at Visteon. Despite my initial apprehension due to my struggles with math in school, I embraced the opportunity to learn and expand my skill set. I firmly believe that age or stage in life should never hinder one’s capacity for learning and personal development.
To all the young women entering the professional world, I have a message: embrace a growth mindset, approach each opportunity with an open mind, and fearlessly explore new opportunities. Remember that success is not contingent upon being naturally skilled but rather on your willingness to learn and grow.
