Visteon’s manufacturing facility in Chennai, India, has received a prestigious occupational health and safety award for consistently excellent results in health, safety, environment and sustainability (HSE&S). The facility received a 4.5 star rating and gold status from the independent, non-profit OHSSAI organization in Mumbai.
The plant scored top marks in each safety category in which it was assessed, including innovative safety initiatives, management processes and training methods. Based on the results, the auditor strongly recommended the Chennai plant for the highest possible award.
One standout objective achieved in Chennai has been zero lost time cases – with a total of 5,924,143 safe person-hours representing 17 years without a lost-time incident since the site opened in 2002. Chennai leads the way among 26 Visteon sites in this area.
Visteon was honored further during the event, as Chennai Plant Director Barkathulla Khan was awarded the best HSE leadership prize for his management of the facility. The award acknowledged Khan’s work in maintaining optimum levels of performance metrics such as safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost.
The OHSSAI event was attended by 120 senior leaders in HSE&S from across India. The agenda included panel discussions and presentations focused on best practices in occupational safety, health and working conditions.
