Visteon is continuing its pioneering partnership with Renault by supplying the instrument cluster for the automaker’s new electric vehicle (EV) variant of the Kwid entry-level crossover – which will launch in China next year. Having played a key role in providing the in-car technology for the original Kwid launched in India, Visteon again delivers the 3.5-inch thin-film transistor (TFT) cluster solution for the world’s biggest and fastest-growing auto market.
Visteon’s technology brings a fresh approach to the driver information presented in the cluster, while retaining elements that made the original Kwid display stand out – such as the centrally-placed digital readout speedometer, which replaced traditional analogue gauges.
Visteon’s instrument cluster is providing the EV Kwid with an innovative product incorporating an ultra-low-cost driver information system. This is a first-of-its-kind integration, where a typical body control module (BCM) and cluster have been combined to optimize e-comps, optic display, software routines, harness and plastics.
Aiming to produce an affordable alternative for cost-sensitive markets, Renault is taking an existing popular and affordable model and placing it in the China market to utilize the country’s battery expertise to present a competitive entry-level EV. The automaker already intends to expand this vehicle line into Europe, Brazil and the Middle East – if customer uptake is good.
