Visteon's Bir-el-Bey plant in Tunisia has been awarded the Shingo Silver Medallion, recognizing employees' commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement. Shingo examiners awarded the Medallion based on high ratings in all four dimensions of the Shingo model: Cultural enablers, continuous improvement, enterprise alignment and results.
The Shingo committee highlighted the Bir-el-Bey workforce and self-directed work teams as particular strengths in the assessment report. Describing the workforce, the committee said: "We were genuinely impressed by Visteon's talented people who are a huge asset to the organization. Their team spirit is evident in the way they consistently shared credit for success with their colleagues, particularly ideas for improvement."
Commenting on the plant's self-directed work teams, the committee also highlighted the level of integration from the support organizations and the engagement from the work teams as a core strength.
The Shingo awards ceremony and gala will be part of the organization's 30th International Conference on April 9-12, 2018, in Orlando, Florida, U.S.
Bir-el-Bey's 450 employees produce displays, clocks, parktronics, key fobs and immobilizers to a range of European vehicle manufacturers, including Renault-Nissan, PSA, Daimler, Opel and Volkswagen.
