Visteon celebrates pioneering 3D digital cluster technology with Peugeot in Bulgaria

Following the launch of Visteon’s industry-first fully 3D digital cluster in the Peugeot 208 in February, the company hosted a collaborative event with the automaker in Sofia, Bulgaria, to praise the engineering and product development contributions of the local technology center to the final product. As part of Peugeot’s unique 3D i-Cockpit®, the Visteon solution represents the first real 3D cluster in automotive production.

Presenting the vehicle in an official ceremony at Sofia’s Capital Fort building on Dec. 3, Visteon site leaders were joined by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov; and Yordanka Fandankova, Mayor of Sofia; as well as representatives from Groupe PSA and Automotive Cluster Bulgaria. During the proceedings, the site was praised for its exceptional contribution in collaboration with global development teams to deliver the innovative cluster solution.

Prime Minister Borisov took part in a comprehensive test drive in the new Peugeot 208 – which was streamed live to his official social media pages. He later joined the other leaders and dignitaries who delivered presentations on the latest technology and business development between organizations within Bulgaria, in front of more than 300 Visteon employees, automotive guests and industry media.

Partnering with Groupe PSA to develop a pioneering “3D Blade” concept, Visteon’s digital cluster displays advanced reflections to create the impressions of 3D graphics. The cluster is composed of a high-definition 10.25-inch “background’ thin-film transistor (TFT) and a 7-inch “foreground” TFT projected on a semi-reflective blade. The leading-edge display creates a 3D projection of approximately 15 mm between the front and rear images.

The 3D cluster is the first of several variants in the Groupe PSA brand line-up to be launched over the coming years in a number of sizes. Sharing the same platform as the DS3 CROSSBACK instrument cluster, the 208 cluster – with its two TFTs surrounded by tell-tale satellites – also provides high-quality graphical content with animations and 3D content on both screens, in a complex and calibrated mechanical structure. This allows a true sense of depth to the driver, without distraction.
