Side Object Awareness
![]() |
The term "Driver Awareness Systems" is an industry recognized term for systems that help make drivers more cognizant of their surroundings. There are three phases for these types of systems: awareness; awareness and warning; and awareness, warning and control.
Visteon's Side Object Awareness monitors the vehicle's surroundings and alerts drivers of objects (vehicles) in a zone (blind spot) on either side of the vehicle. An icon is displayed on the corresponding side view mirror when an object, such as a motorcycle or another vehicle, is in the sense zone.
Benefits
- Provides the driver with increased situational awareness using two short-range sensors strategically positioned on either side of the vehicle.
- Accommodates a variety of mounting options in the rear of the vehicle (e.g. behind fascia, lamp lens or plastic insert), allowing for hidden installation.
- Offers robust performance against adverse weather, contaminants and lighting conditions compared to vision-based technologies using radar-based technology.
- Enables upgradeable architecture to easily support future features and functional enhancements because it is seamlessly integrated into the vehicle's electronic architecture.
