Enabled by New Resin Material
Every vehicle program presents a new set of performance criteria leading to the independent design of each interior. Visteon's breadth of interior solutions address a variety of specifications, depending on the automaker's needs for surface styling, gloss, color, texture and packaging requirements. As a leader in low-gloss mold-in-color solutions, Visteon can eliminate expensive painting processes by mixing the colorant with the polypropylene resin prior to injection molding. In addition, Visteon has multiple solutions to achieve a two-tone mold-in-color appearance.
Instrument Panels and Integrated Air Bag Door
Conventional air-bag doors in instrument panels have presented a variety of challenges for automakers, including: styling, fit and finish, noise and vibration, uneven fade over time, and inconsistent color, grain and gloss levels. Visteon's Mold-in-Color Instrument Panels can be supplied with an integrated air-bag door that addresses these long standing issues. Incorporating this solution enables the delivery of a hard instrument panel that has a seamless outer appearance with consistent grain and texture. Visteon achieved this breakthrough by working with its supply base to develop a polypropylene resin that meets the high impact and weld strength performance standards of integrated air-bag systems.
