Advanced Radar
Technologies
These systems provide the driver with total situational awareness
of the vehicle's surroundings. While these systems cannot
substitute for safe driving, both systems can potentially
increase the driver's awareness of road conditions and improve
response time to potential hazards.
Side Object Awareness – By adapting radar technology used in the aircraft industry, Visteon's engineers created a system that monitors all four sides of a vehicle's surroundings to sense an obstacle or object that may obstruct the vehicle. This system is a complement to Adaptive Cruise Control, warning the driver of potential hazards, monitoring the blind spot and even assisting with parallel parking.
A basic form of this system may alert a driver to avoid making a dangerous maneuver, such as merging into a lane occupied by another vehicle.
